Our first Five Questions segment will focus on Eagles training camp. Who is the starting quarterback week 1 and why?
Barry Petchesky: I truly believe the QB job will be decided in camp–Chip Kelly’s offenses have never relied on a “type,” so the obvious style differences between Vick and Foles shouldn’t be too much of a factor. Kelly likes a QB with mobility, but not TOO much mobility, if that makes sense. He’ll rarely call plays that require a scramble, but he likes his quarterback to be able to do it when the front breaks down. Slight advantage to Vick there.
Grace under pressure may matter more than anything else. In Kelly’s lightning offense, play calls will be coming from the sideline well under half the time. Neither Vick nor Foles (nor Barkley) have played under anything like this before, so how they …read more
