Andy Who? Everything about training camp has been different under new Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly, from the location of practices to the way the team eats. Former coach Andy Reid’s camps were known for their heavily attended open practices at Lehigh University, while more reserved Coach Kelly has moved Eagles training camp back to Philadelphia; the first time since the 1940’s.
Chip Kelly, as Eagles faithful know, was heralded as a unique coach at the collegiate level for turning around a struggling Oregon U. program, and leading the Ducks to repeated PAC-10 Conference Championships, and championship series Bowl Games. From his days at Oregon, we knew that he liked to run a fast-paced spread offense, but never knew the secrets behind Kelly’s success.
We are now learning that Coach Kelly is a strong advocate for healthy eating choices and habits. Unlike Reid’s cafeteria style eatery of “Taco Tuesdays” and “Fast Food Fridays”, Kelly has four main food stations set up at the NovaCare Complex, in South Philadelphia, where the team shares every meal together.
